Re: 2025 summary

What a great year and the new websites look fresh and professional. All the best for the next year.

Do you find that time slows down, a year is long, as you are so busy and that time is not rushing away?

Re: WeatherFax

The Nasa Target HF3W will receive 2618.5, 3855, 7880 and 13882.5 kHz. It also has an output to a laptop where the weather fax, synoptic charts can be produced. IIRC NASA provided software for that, but there is stuff online that can be used, however your own App may work. I have never done it but I ...

Re: RYA SafeTrx To Be Discontinued and Closed Down

No idea, but I doubt that CG66 will be revived as it had become technologically redundant, which was why SafeTrx was introduced. I carry both and EPIRB and PLB, both registered with the MCA and 3 x contacts recorded, along with my vessel details such as hull colour, sail number and such like. These ...

RYA SafeTrx To Be Discontinued and Closed Down

Just got a message from the RYA via their FB App that SafeTrx will close down on the 31 December 2025. Apparently in consultation with HM Coastguard, new technology means that the App is no longer worth it. "https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FRoyalYa...

The new code, issued by the MCA, note that the link takes you top all the relevant codes. It includes updates on batteries including "lithium ion" types, but not specifically LiFePO4, electronic navigation and many other areas: - https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/small-craft-codes-...

Re: This forum

Just delete it. Get rid of the liability. Free yourself from the hassle of hosting this place and not have to deal with personal data, data breach risks, and the potential hassles around that.

It's a shame, but that is the way it is. You will feel better for it. All the best, enjoy the sun.

Re: RYA Survey, Your Voice Matters: Reflection’s On Water Survey Now Open

Surveys can be very clever at extracting useful insights if constructed by an expert, while the direction or themes may not be obvious to the participant. I have no idea if this one is good or bad. I am always wary of "Survey Monkey" surveys as every amateur on the planet uses it as part o...

RYA Survey, Your Voice Matters: Reflection’s On Water Survey Now Open

The RYA have published a survey to get opinion on a wide range of participation in water based activities. It focuses on the type of activity you do. If it’s only cruising, you get asked about that, if it’s cruising, jet skis and SUP you get asked about them. The objective is to understand reasons o...

Nick Stratton Death

Nick Stratton was a big character on the Clyde being based at Rhu and from NI. I did my Competent Crew in 1980 on one of his Ruffian 22 designs and sailed on a few Sigma 33’s sold out of his agency. I never knew him directly, only through association of others, and he was big racer on the Clyde circ...

Re: Historic ship could return to the Clyde

Port Glasgow-built Falls of Clyde scuttled off Hawaiian coast. That's the end of that idea. A lot of good intentions, even possible solutions to move the boat for free and bring it Scotland but still it could not be made to happen. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn7em5p087vo#:~:text=Falls%20of%...

It is called Cam Phort! It apparently translates to dry dock.

There are two historical environmental records (HERS) for the dock but they are not listed. You can request a visit to view https://www.trove.scot/archive/1471208

Re: Spade anchor, watermaker, Jordan drogue for sale

The 107 cone JSD is suitable for my boat size and weight. The cone edge is a deal breaker as the unsealed cone edges have frayed after a single use, shredding the cone. The new designs have hems or tape to seal the edge. If still available, please advise. Thanks.
