Re: Loch Frisa passage plan
I know I'm late to the party, the Rathin Express and Spirit of Rathlin do the passengers and crew numbers every passage. Call Belfast CG on 16 and get sent to 67, except when they take the 32/4 on 16.

Have anchoring and dinghy places been lost?BlowingOldBoots wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 12:43 pm Maybe there will be more anchoring and dinghy work, like it was in the past.
Probably curtailed certainly.

Re: Roller Reefing System Comparison: Profurl v Harken - Opinions / Facts
The replacement Furlex system on Seminole has worked well for 25 years. It's dual luff but only ever had one sail. I don't think that it's unusual to have to winch in a flogging supposedly unloaded sail in a good breeze. I was cautious at first, "don't winch in a furler it'll damage stuff"...

Re: Advice On Hot Air Outlets Required
On Seminole the Unit 1.8 Kw is in the cockpit locker. The run to the first outlet in the saloon is 2 or 3 meters and is OK. The outlet in the side cabin is maybe 6m but to be fair, going to bed I don't want heat. In the morning different. The third outlet in the bog/shower is a waste of time. We wou...

Re: Low Cost Tablets for Navigation
I have a Samsung S7 which talks to my Raymarine Axiom plotter by Wi-Fi with software. It's handy for passage planning, waypoint placing from inside when it's foul outside. So saves the cost of an interior MFD. Having sailed single handed without auto pilot I want nav info in the cockpit, not at the ...

Re: Gas Pipe
When I replaced the cooker pipe on Seminole the bit I took off said, in French, BBE 1986, or maybe something was lost in translation. It's a 1982 boat. I did this in 2014. The pipe had lost the sheen of youth, but had no significant cracks and didn't leak. I believe that there is a significant safet...

Re: Batteries
Seminole has a 110AHr lead acid starter battery which looks after it's self. The windlass LA battery up front is only a year old but similarly I don't worry about it. The 3x110AHr domestic bank take more care. The alternator feeds all three banks through a Victron 3 output FET splitter. The 80 amp a...

So has the original planning permission condition that space was left for boats wishing to anchor when making a commercial marina from a beautiful natural anchorage condition that space was left for boats wishing to anchor been forgotten then?
Asking for my Dad.

I'm not ower bothered about Her Madge, she seems to have her heart in the right place despite hew upbringing. Her bloke seems to have been a bit of a twat though. probably inspired de piffle and his Bullingdon chums to their twattish beliefs and actions. Andrew should have been outed years ago but R...

I enjoyed these.
A couple of the deaths after the first one seemed a bit gratuitous but hey ho.
I liked the coverup/skepticism thing too, it seems to fit with current politics and "the Ministry of Truth".

Re: Anyone Going Sailing This Year or Jacking It All In?
Jacking it all in my arse. I'm only 63 and the crew is significantly younger (29 she says), so loads of seasons yet. Thinking of venturing south into the Irish sea and down to Wales or maybe beyond. But taking red diesel may be painful if we touch Southern Ireland so I don't know. Johnson and Covid ...

Re: Battered Boats at Connel
Unlike Kip or Largs, which are piled fixed pontoons, Craobh is an anchored system. I have been at Kip, in 100kt winds and the pontoons were twisted at 45 degrees from the horizontal in some places, but they stayed in line with the piles. How would an anchored pontoon survive in such winds, maybe be...
