Last year we did avoiding the gales and storms, and a trip to Skye, via a distillery or three.
This year we are going Orkney and perhaps then the Faroe Islands. I've got 4 weeks off in June/July and then again another few weeks in September, hopefully this time without the gales and storms.

Re: Sailing to Skye
Well, had a great sail to Campbelltown and Port Ellen on Islay. From there to Gigha and then on Craighouse and Oban. A day off for crewe collection and then on to Tobermory and then a beautiful sail to Canna, good shelter. Then on to Loch Harport and amazingly a distillery.. good pub too. Then the w...

Re: A visit from Katia?
We are currently in Tobermory. The wind here is not awful but the rain is just soul destroying. Went to castle Duart yesterday overlooking Oban and that sea looked VERY unpleasant. Sailing to Skye

It typically takes me about 16 hours to get from Ardrossan to Islay, and a good sail, weather permitting. Is it better to sail from Islay, up the Sound of Islay to Colonsay, on to Mull and...

Re: Making stuff out of canvas - material supplier?
We've used ebay, particularly to get canvas and neoprene fabrics for boat projects. All have worked with a fairly simple sewing machine. The trick seems to be to use "leather needles" and to change them regularly. The other coment is make sure you get good thread. That was harder to find t...
