Where should we aim for this year?

.
Baltic? Long way, but not so far from Peterhead.

West coast of Ireland? (deja vu but we did promise we'd go back)

Faroes?

Orkney (again?)

Shetland (ditto)

Or just back to Hebfest and Sail Stornoway and down the Hebs again? Repetitive but always rewarding . . . and maybe the Monachs this year.

The west coast of Ireland - great places and great people.

Go there first then to Heb Celt Fest.

Sorted.

Cruise in company to Faroe, late June; back in time for Sail Stornoway.

Hmmm . . . hadn't thought about Faroe before Sail Stornoway, but why not?

(Apart from probably the weather of course . . . .)

I had great plans for last year. Four weeks booked off work, so through the canal, Iona, Barra, St Kilda if an opportunity arose, Skye, that sort of thing. And what happened? Work pressure knocked off a week of leave, a keel repair overran, mainly because of crappy weather and further crappy weather delayed the eventual start.

We got to Millport and back.

Second attempt was in September/October. Two weeks booked off to play around the Firth of Clyde. Day 1: motored 100yds from mooring to marina berth. Days 2 - 10: sheltered in marina from gales, rain and hail. Day 11: motored out of marina, sailed to Rothesay and back, motored back into marina, left boat ready to be lifted out, went home to arrange family funeral.

This year I'm hoping to circumnavigate Bute. Anything more will be a welcome bonus.

While we were cramming fillet of deed coo doon oor necks ( mine with Roquefort, hers with cepes) we discussed our cruising plans this year.

In no particular order - other that the weather - these are:

1. Nice high pressure - go down wind in boatie. An eastery start would be nice thanks.
2. Nice low pressure - go to Tiree on the ferry with a van load of windsurfing kit.
3. Typical dreech-ness - suit up and clear off on motorbikes, possibly to the Newcastle-Amsterdam ferry, then where ever.

You can be abs-o-lootley certain that the weather will feck us up no matter what we plan :umbrella:

Judging by the Stockholm Archipelago it's nice, really nice. But no better than the West coast of Scotland in my view. Not worth leaving the West Coast for the Baltic IMHO.

A mate who did the Faroes really rated it and from the photos it looked spectacular. (And once you're at the Faroes you're half way to Iceland which really appeals to me for some reason).

Last year we did avoiding the gales and storms, and a trip to Skye, via a distillery or three.

This year we are going Orkney and perhaps then the Faroe Islands. I've got 4 weeks off in June/July and then again another few weeks in September, hopefully this time without the gales and storms.
