Beautiful day so had a dander about Balmaha and came across this wonderful tribute to the late Tom Weir;

While at school, I attended two of Tom's lectures in the 60s. His love of the mountains and Scotland certainly inspired me and possibly millions of others. Not all of them would have become climbers of course, but his articles and stories were always a pleasure to read. His telly programmes were great favourites and were repeated many times.

His programmes for STV, "Weir's Way are here - https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Tom+Weir

And what a day at Loch Lomond -

I was always rather taken by the memorial to Colonel Stirling above Doune.

I'd read about it but hadn't realised it would be such a beautiful object. I presume it's bronze - let's hope it doesn't get nicked by some wee gadgie and melted down for scrap.

Tom Weir was the speaker at our inaugural meeting of the BoFMC in 1973.
