I was boarded on the ‘Pride of Holland’ early enough that I could have dinner before watching the departure from the freight drivers outside area.

A steel strop was left connected to the starboard stern quarter whilst the bow thruster was used to bring the bow through 90 degrees into a stiff breeze. This took about 10 minutes.

The strop was released while under load and then the prop wash continued the turn.

Did he use his hand to clamp the line on the drum before spinning it off?

Not a spring, strictly speaking but interesting pichurs nevertheless.

Non of that buggering about trying to use the engine at any rate.

I think warping and manual handling is vastly under rated these days. Have watched folk trying to just use the donk and making a right hash of it when the other options look an easier way of getting on or off a berth to me.

Especially at Ferry Nab.......
