New Coastguard area boundaries

While out over the last few days I could often hear both Belfast and Stornoway Coastguards (including on a couple of occasions one calling the other for a radio check!). I realised that I don't actually know where the operational boundary between Stornoway and Belfast is located. Can anyone say?

They seem to take turns covering MoK to Ardnamurchan.

From the "unofficial" S'way CG site:
From the 18th December 2012 the operational area of Stornoway MRCC covers the approximate area from the Gulf of Corryvreckan, West to 30° West, North to 61° North, East to 5° West and South to Cape Wrath.
This area includes all the Scottish mainland coast and sea lochs between the the northern tip of Jura and Cape Wrath, the Caledonian Canal as far as Fort Augustus, all of the Outer Hebrides and the Inner Hebrides north of Jura.

Stornoway MRCC also has the capacity to temporarily extend the area to the South, having access to remote radio sites which are normally under the operational control of Belfast MRCC. This is designed to assist Belfast MRCC during busy periods or a major incident, to take some of the routine calls and relieve some pressure on the Coastguards in Belfast. Likewise, Belfast MRCC are able to do the same and take control of some of the remote radio sites normal operated from Stornoway.

Thanks for that, seems fairly clear. Loch Craignish is presumably divided, with the north part covered by Stornoway and the south by Belfast with the boundary passing through Eilean Righ? Or maybe that's being overly pedantic... :)

Dave, just call 'Clyde Coastguard' and someone will answer. Quite a lot of boats seem to be doing that and getting a response :D

Indeed.

On a purely personal level it's a bit academic since I haven't once called the Coastguard in the last 30 years...

Has anyone heard a call to Oban Coastguard this year?

Oh yes, when we left the Lock at Corpach on our way to Dallens Bay at the end of April we had a most entertaining time. A geezer in a MFV sort of boat kept trying to call Oban CG. Stornoway reponded but the chap evidently was transmitting but not receiving. Eventually someone physically approached and hailed him, and he stopped.

I think you are slightly to the Stornoway side.

Except on Sundays.
