Mistral now has a new navigator

Mrs Ash has just successfully completed her Day Skipper Shore Based Theory Course over 2 1/2 weekends.

She has 2 full, intensive weekends of study, with a weekend off in between, then another weekend off before spending today doing some revision and then a 3 hour plus assessment.

I only have my RYA Dinghy Level 1 and 2 Sailing Course, so I think I've been trumped.

Next season we'll be making due allowance for tidal rates and leeway before deciding on a course to steer to round Toward after leaving Kip.

Tides?

On the Clyde? Them's not real tides at all. Why would you need to consider the effect on a boat with sails up or a working engine?

I can confirm that Aquaplane is having me keep up with the Ash Family & has used the feeble excuse of birthday/Christmas to book me on a course.

We (I) daren't go down that route as the soup-dragon would then have an idea of what was supposed to happen- better for only one to be shouting even if he does need a boat-shaped nether orifice for parking purposes.
I can't imagine who is going to do what and with which and to whom as Mistral glides towards the last free mooring in Millport next season closely followed by three boats from Largs...

We can stop in bed and take it easy if the girls want to take over.

Stormy is going to be @ Pugneys for 7 Sundays from mid Jan to the end of Feb, I don't know if that's better or worse than 5 days over 3 non-consecutive weekends.

I think that it might. Mrs Ash found the first weekend very heavy. They seemed to pile into it, and a lot of it was the heavyweight stuff - chartwork, tidal heights.

It also takes a while to get back into the swing of classroom work, and exam techniques.

The time of day used in the questions seem very wierd, the hour and 58 minutes for example, but you find that the time fits in with the time of high water so if it doesn't then you have gone wrong somewhere.

You will now have to stop Ash putting the sails up as trying to catch the best wind upsets all your passage planning. See there has been method in my reluctance to use the sails as may end up in the Port instead on Rothesay.

To make you jealous I had a turn round the Clyde today. Was lovely,flat calm, little wind and not cold.

Maybe it is me. But do others find this. You go out in Dec wrapped up and you do not find it too cold, yet you go out in July/Aug wearing the same gear and find it freezing. Must be psychological as you expect "summer" to be warm and seldom is. You expect winter to be cold and when it is, there is no problem.

Well done Joan, you will now be the most important member of crew who the helmsman must take orders from.

Danny, you must be getting braver, going out today when the CalMac from Largs announced possible disruptions.
They were having difficulty docking at Cumbrae slip due to the easterly swell.
