Got a Pic of red white and blue

We met up with the folks from the TSA last W/E for the last cruise of 2012 on Windermere. It was a cracking W/E but there wasn't much wind.

Anyroad, Stu took some nice pictures of us sailing Chiron including one of the cruising chute I borrowed off my Mum. The sail was bought for a Leisure 27 in 1980 and hasn't been used since 1982 'till I got my hands on it.

The snuffer is a bit of a pain, sometimes I can't get the head of the sail out, as in the pic.

The chute that came with the boat looks bigger from the front:

The two chutes are cut differently, will one set closer to the wind on a reach?

I have overcome my kilo post anxiety :D

welcome to the admirality, CPO Pertwee will see to your every need.
However I need to know - if you are a white rose, what does that make me?

A man of taste?

This is all very well - but some poor lady mariner has to point the boat correctly to fill the sails and hand out coffee and biccies whilst you are strolling up and down the deck.

Come on - where is the 'other picture'.....

Do you mean this picture:

where we were sailing along nicely or this one:

where we pushed our luck and went well aground down by the Swan and had to get the RNLI to pull us off?

At this point the crew had abandoned ship (well I was thrown off to lighten the boat) - but thanks to some wonderful boaty people helping her, Chiron soon freed herself.

We were lucky in that the passing RNLI staff managed to stop laughing long enough to throw you a line. Also unlucky that the other boat I was on had a very good digital camera.

Congratulations, and welcome to the Admirals Club. Your key to the executive toilet and your neck tie should arrive in the post very soon.

I would expect the one with the flatter cut to sail closer to the wind. Which one did we have up? I had it in my mind that it was solid pink.

I must remind you to bring one with for the next Scuttlebutt - just for the weekend.

If you look carefully, you can see the propwash behind the boat so I reckon that your problem was that you were in the wrong gear - you should have been trying to pull her out in reverse - it's cos your gearshift moves from side to side - confusing - :shake:

Lucky for you that you weren't on a falling tide! It could have been a long wait for the winter rains.

I was aiming to deeper water and moving about trying to alter the trim so it would drive off in forward gear.
It was a difficult situation. The port keel touched first then the back end swung out across the stream. Trying to reverse off the prop walk pulled the stern further round so we were across the stream pointing to the shallower side with even shallower water off the Stbd quarted which is where the stern wanted to go. I managed to go forwards bouncing over the cobles on the river bed but then got stuck as in the pic. Norman and Ken pulled me backwards and sideways into slightly deeper water and I was off.
We decided it wasn't such a good idea to go to the Swan after that.

I thought you had a big sail?

I have - it's one of those old fashioned symmetrical thingies. Next time I might try it when there is some wind! The foot was so low that I couldn't see under it!
