Buying items unseen

I recently did something rather rash. I'd read of an ageing boat owner who had become incapable of rowing his inflatable dinghy and had decided to replace it.
In a moment of over- enthusiastic sympathy I offered him what I now realise was a most generous sum which was obviously accepted very quickly ( about a nano second)
Call it buyers remorse if you will but do you think I have been rather unwise?
The crowning moment in this whole sorry saga was when the spineless fekker actually sent his wife with it to my humble abode, rather than face me and I now realise the meaning of the term 'demanding money with menaces'

Your selfless act of generosity will perhaps nor be rewarded in this earthly domain (or even in a watery one), however in the day of judgement it will be put in the balance and help gain your harp and wings. What were ra menaces by the way? DO they come fae Devon?

We share everything, although I was not quick enough to share in this bonanza. Tactics were discussed beforehand with reinforcements coming up St Georges Channel.
I note you may have a complaint. Have you tried ringing oor help line or oor erm faq?

I've got a hypalon repair kit (used for one small patch) knocking around somewhere, but no inflatable dinghy. If you'd like it, just say.

Whilst on ebay I saw this accolade fer ma dinghy
"YM BEST BUDGET BUY .... boat offers plenty of space making it perfect for use as a tender to get crew and kit to and from your boat. The extra space also makes it ideal for leisure boating, with enough room to get friendly with the crew whilst on a picnic so that exploring new coasts or lakes is a pleasure. The solid moulded rubbing strake which runs right round the tubes means durable performance - it will shrug of knocks and scraps against the pontoon and berths whilst engaged in energetic activities and extended tube cones to provide faster thrust performance with the latest generation of multi stroke condoms. Supplied complete with seat, oars, pump, repair kit (erm ... supplied later) and transit bag." £250
