Carradale on Kintyre are intending to have six visitor moorings in situation by Easter Time. The moorings will be situated to the north of the harbour towards portnacoul. Other facilities such as landing pontoon and improved toilet/shower etc are planned in the future. The village is hopeful of encouraging visitors by land and sea. The harbour is no longer packed with fishing boats, regretably only a few are left.
:troll: P.S The Troll Smilie is far too young and cheerful looking.

Good for them. We've previously gone along side the FBs in Port Crannaich (or anchored in Carradale Bay). It should be fine for settled conditions but I can see that area being a bit exposed in anything with an "E" in it..

It's a few years since we've been there, but it was, and probably still is, a working harbour, so advisable to check to see which fishing boats are going out or coming in.

Carradale harbour is as you say still a working harbour, although the fleet is greatly diminished from even a few years ago. The curved shape of the harbour also does not help any future developement, until this problem is solved the harbour will have its limitations. The Lakeside fish farm co also keep a large work boat at the south end of the harbour where yachts would berth. Hence I presume the reasoning behind the six visitor mooring buoys, also I think the Lakeside co will be sponsoring and laying these mooring. Could be wrong of course. As stated with the wind of the land or light Southerlies all should be well, otherwise very pleasant in Carradale bay. When at the visitor moorings there is an alternative landing place at portnacoul other than the harbour. There is an old jetty with rings on the rock to tie up your dinghy, flat rock for getting ashore and well sheltered and the two hostelries for sustainance and showers are an easy and short walk on the right of way over the hill. Anyway I hope there plans materialise. I shall keep in touch with developements. :oldtroll:
