just asked for my name to be removed from the list of people queued up for a mooring in the lagoon at Ardfern.
After 12 years of waiting, it seems the association voted to change the rules and give priority to local residents "or none would have got a mooring for the past 3 years."
I realise this is self interest but perhaps the rule change should have taken account of people like myself who had been waiting in excess of ten years?

It seems to be the same in many places. It's to encourage boat ownership for the locals.

In Tayvallich only the locals can get a mooring. Existing mooring holders can't sell, sub let or pass on moorings.

It seems that locals sometimes sub let moorings though.

It may be worth asking at Ardfern if there is a mooring which you could use for a suitable consideration, I wouldn't be suprised if someone acquired a mooring to let out, just untill they got a boat.

I think I'd feel that I was supporting a system that I feel is flawed, if I did that Bob.

As I said - much of this is about self interest and I'd naturally be bound to be irritated by the decision. There will be a good number of 2nd homes in the mix and the socialist in me objects to 2nd home ownership anyway so it increases my annoyance that some fat cat solicitor from the Bearsden will be usurping me in the queue. Then again - Fat Cat solicitors from Bearsden probably use the marina anyway. Damn - who can I aim this rant at.

Rant at the people who take on a mooring, stick a boat on it and then never use the boat. Last mooring I was at, there were about twenty boats of which only two were used regularly, one boat only moved twice in ten years, each time when it broke free. No doubt these boats are probably uninsured as well. Rant over!

Wonder if the ownership lists are available under freedom of info? Interesting to see how many of the 'locals' actually have more than one mooring, (but only one boat)

Did you know that you don't need to go through the Lagoon Moorings Association?

Talk to the Crown Estates commissioner direct- they had stopped trying to deal with the association last I heard are were accepting direct applications. (This was a year or so back so I don't know if it is still the case.)

If you get as far as looking for some ground tackle then get in touch, I might be able to help you there.

I was in Tayvallich last week. It's changed a lot since I last sailed my Heron Dink "Little Rotter" there 30-odd years ago. Very busy, but plenty of room in the nearby lochs with only a few moorings. Would it not be possibe to sling yer 'ook in a corner quietly somewhere?

Heyup Steve, we were tied up to the pontoon in Tayvallich most of last week, from Sunday to Friday, the hospitality on a 20' boat isn't up to much but from our point of view it would have been a welcome break if anyone had knocked and said hello.

Oh - booger! We ended up in the coffee shop & sitting in the car watching the rain!

Nah, they must have been in the pub. Liked the pub, we had a Green Thai Curry each that was not unpleasant & the staff were ALL very friendly, smiley & helpful which came as a bit of a surprise.

I think we must be talking about different last weeks.
We went after the SB cruise.
I can remember the cabin cruiser but the rib wasn't there or the big blimey on the end.
The only times we moved were on Monday we motored up Scotnish to have a look after we had scraped the barnacles and muscles off the bottom. On Thursday we went down to Castle Sween and back between showers.

AHhhh! The light dawns! You were the couple carreening a yacht with the halliard tied to the end pontoon. Does LadyS wear long sleeved yellow Marigolds when wielding the broom? The stonking great Benny on the end of the pontoon arrived the following evening (Monday?)

Linda wondered what you were up to & I had to point out to her that poor unfortunates with only 1 keel & less than inspiring tides needed to resort to such antics to wipe their bums. We lucky twin keelers simply dry out for several hours on a nice beach for that activity - and I carry a garden hoe for the purpose of dealing with the more stubborn Barney Kulls.

I had put the boom on!
I think it was Tuesday before the Burgees went up, and I had to take them in as the were beating themselves to death on the shrouds.
We had lots of time to watch the tide ebb and flow. I came to the conclusion that beaching the Centaur @ Tayvallich is a non-starter.
