I’ve just returned from Troon where there were a few concerned club members with regard to Sahona lying holed on a beach off Arran.
The talk was that everyone was tired but OK, services in attendance and they have kindly been offered accommodation for the night.
I don’t know any more details…. just glad Bill & Kath are safe & well.

Really sorry to hear this and glad that both are OK. Supremely confident that Bill will have this sorted in jig-time.

Thinking of them . . . that's a tough old boat, so a wee hole won't be much of a problem and as Dave says Bill will have it fixed PDQ

Just had a text / update from a club member:
Anchor dragged at Lochranza, collided with something, two foot gash below the waterline, now up against the pier at Lamlash with pumps provided to contain the water...... eeeek!

Sad to hear that.

Not quite lying on the beach. I sailed into Lochranza Sat night and spoke to Bill, he was lying at anchor. It got very windy during the night. I woke up Sun morn and spotted the fire brigade and the coastgaurd on the pontoon with a large pump. Sahona dragged her anchor during the night and Bill felt a hard bump. He got off ok and headed for the pontoon. He had his pumps on, hand pumping and his sea water intake diverted into the bilge but he couldn't beat the flow. I motored over to the pontoon but there was nothing I could do to help. After a lot of regular pumping he got a tow over to the pier and tied up sitting on the bottom waiting for high tide and then a dry out. Bill suspected some damage around the rudder. Water was up to his batteries and over the starter motor. His son is on the island on holiday so hopefully he will be able to help out.
It is a tough old boat and Bill seemed to be coping well Kath was a bit shocked. Glad to know they are both safe and well.

Hole is fixed with Builders foam and wood, Prop is also damaged. He's heading for Lamlash (slowly) then getting an escort back to Troon.

Is this a lesson for us all I wonder?
So as well as bolt-croppers, flares etc etc, we should all carry wood for bracing and pads plus a large can of builders foam.

So sorry to hear about Sahona, but so pleased to hear that they are both OK; let's hope for an uneventful trip back to Troon.

OMG - that's really awful. Glad that Bill & Kath are Ok - at least GRP can be mended.

There's a missed opportunity there I feel Nicodemus - perhaps "Claymores are fine ships and well able to cope with hard groundings - legend has it that 1 once spent half a tide aground in close proximity to the Cleit Rock with little damage to anything but the skippers pride. This once provided some amusement and entertainment for a forum gathering and we hope that your experience will prove similarly fruitful in the fullness of time."
