I remember 3 of these flying low up the sound of mull during a WHYW or Tob weekend and then powering up over Ardnamurchan. Awe inspiring.
Just read "Empire of the Clouds" which is about the post war British aviation industry. Brilliantly incompetent. Amazing that something like the Vulcan actully survived the politics and was brought into service!

Many years ago, I worked in the factory where Vulcans had previously been built. Occasionally one would turn up for an oil change or something. The old hands reminisced about night shifts spent in the fuel tank of a Vulcan under contruction, watching blue movies projected onto the wall of the fuel tank!

They don't make 'em like that any more...
