.
Edinburgh Leisure has confirmed it will stop managing Port Edgar in the Firth of Forth at the end of March 2014. They have been running the site since 1998. They said that the age and condition of the site means it will require upgrading in three years time, which they can't afford.

It doesn't exactly exude the hallmarks of good management:

Run the place until knackered and then walk away

Not really fair - the place was knackered in 1998 but then it was cooncil run before that. Edinburgh Leisure has sunk (!) lots of money into some things - a climbing site with various roofs and the latest extravaganza is the Commie Pool which will end up totally refurbished but not wide enough to hold top class events. Meanwhile they paid for a new crane for PE but the company went bust and swallowed the money.
I wonder if the marina will forego its annual above inflation hike in prices now?

So, is there a plan for what happens next? Walk away & allow free berthing in ever diminishing conditions? Sell to best bidder to cut their losses (good opportunity for local boaters consortium)? Give it to the like of MDL to further exploit the boaters?

I can't imagine wny anyone would publicise that they are giving up because it needs too much investment, all that has done is undermine their chances of selling it as a going concern! Bloody politicians & Council lackeys!

A cynic might suggest a ploy to shame the council into putting up the investment. I couldn't possibly comment!

Shame a Council, now there is an oxymoron if I ever saw one. Political types have no shame.
