I have just received a postcard from 2 former friends informing me that Claymore will be attending - with or without the owner....

I am here up the Monte Baldo hoping that one of the Master Race will splat himself/herself whilst para-gliding and have no time fer idle chit-chat.

No deid krauts this morning .... watched Serbia vs Italy on the box. Thumping great smoke bomb flung over a 15' high perspex screen. jings they'd teach parkhead/milwall a few lessons. Now, the italians believe this all stems back from the nato bombing .. hmm .. if bannockburn's anything to go by, the serbs can enjoy a few years more? Interestingly, the Carabineri opened one of the doors through the perspex screen, getting ready to put the boot in, I thought, and can compare tactics with oor polis. Not a bit of it. One polis skipped in and promptly came out a lot faster. They're armed of course but so are most of the serbs, apparently ...

Its going to be a very long sail from Fleetwood to Oban if we have to relive your Serbian exploits.

You must be finding it easy to be understood out there with you being a fluent Serbo-Croat speaker as you so frequently and ably demonstrate here?

Can we not / have we not arranged a sail / muster to the IoM?

As this would make / be a very rough 1/2 way compromise for a jolly good social.

The IoM has been a target of mine for many years.

The wier and bridge on the Leven put me off just now.

I'm told that somat that will take the ground is a distinct advantage round there, but some folk mentioned sills too, what's the story?

We went in 2008. Peel and Douglas harbours have high tech lock gates on their harbour entrances that prevent the water from escaping. There are a couple of other places where anchoring is feasible without drying out, e.g. Port St Mary. There's a website http://www.gov.im/transport/harbours/

The weir and the graveyard below are relatively straightforward if you don't go when there has been a few weeks of rain.
The worst part will be at the Dolly Blue works as the bridge is a bit low for masts.
For what it would cost - perhaps consider a portage to Greenodd and then wander along past Ulverston to Piel?

Or I could take the Copland and launch at Fleetwood or Douglas! Chiron may be better suited to the Irish Sea.

We really enjoyed sailing to the IoM two summers ago. Great Kippers..
