Rough weather pix

.
Have you ever taken pics of horrendous seas only to discover it looks flat calm when you look at them later and nothing like the way you remembered it? Either that or when it is really rough getting the camera out is the last thing to cross your mind.

(An example is the recent thread on here about leaving Bunessan in horrendous conditions in the Round Mull race - some photos would have been nice but I guess people had other things on their minds.)

We had a pretty rough trip back round Statt, a notorious Norwegian headland, while we were away and at one point Kathy managed to grab a shot - the only one, but it does give a hint of the sea state . . . you can see the streaks of foam on the water just under the guardrail.

Anyone else got any rough weather pix?

Nick, you are right about it being the last thing on your mind in roughers.

But I do have some video from our first week in familiar waters.

Good idea for a thread!

As you say, don't often get shots in roughers and when they are taken the sea always looks dissapointingly flat.

Here's some vid from a downwind sleigh ride accross the Channel in a F8 in 2008. (It dropped half way.)

Also did a little jaunt in a gale in the shelter of the solent/portsmouth harbour last year which attracted a bit of angst on TOP:
This is down by Port Solent. Almost perfectly sheltered.

These are the Harbour Entrance. Again, can get lumpy here but it's still sheltered behind the Island.

You can hear the hail hitting:

This wasn't a gale but it was breezy and I had my camera:

And by virtue of the fickle nature of getting shots of sea state is this wasn't even a windy day and the image makes it looks like the southern ocean:

The sea in the first one - XChannel in the 8 was way bigger than any other shot. The boat was regularly surfing at 9 knots on decent size rollers. Doesn't look like it though.

That's it, I'm not going out if it's windy.

Well, the waves were so big in this shot, that the water went away completely in the troughs. It was hell there, but we managed to hang onto the pontoon.

Dublin Bay from the southern side of the Howth peninsula
very little sea as it was an offshore breeze, but watching the squalls blow through was spectacular
