I am sitting here caressing a glass of Bowmore and a decent cup of coffee.

We are out on FC tomorrow looking for the pesky leak that I have had for 3 seasons, as I eliminated all the obvious causes some time ago. But I have a pleasant dinner in prospect tomorrow night with the eccentric Roach Sailing Association.

I would still rather be joining you on the trip you have planned.

No wind so didn't get to Colonsay but did land on Belnahua, Eilean Garbh and Lunga. Party on Saturday night in Camas a Mhor-Fhir with Silkie and the Shards. A thoroughly pleasant 30-hour break.

I had a delightful week but remind me to tell you about the head-to-head anchor test at Garbh Eileach sometime lbb, Spade versus Raya.

I'm pretty sure that life is too short and already contains a sufficiency of grief but anyway...

I've just been crunching the numbers on our test to get a comparison of the setting attempt:success ratios of the two anchors but my calculator must be broken since it tells me that the Raya is infinitely better than the Spade. No, wait a minute, that's the sort of number you get when you compare no sets out of three attempts with a first time success.

I'll admit that I thought the Raya hadn't set (although thinking back I'd put out about 5:1 having seen the difficulty the Spade was having and it's just possible that I hadn't reversed far enough before deciding it was a failure) and was in process of trying to reverse out into more open water before attempting to recover the hook (this is really only an absurdly small dent in the coastline with an off-lying rock rather than an actual anchorage) but nevertheless the Raya went down only once and held.

In any event it was F1, if that, and we were able to pass a couple of lines and raft Fairwinds to Silkie while the Spade lay forlorn, on it's side, somewhere off Fairwinds' quarter.

'smostly rock, not much of an anchorage really. The pilot says weed and sand, but there only seems to be one patch of sand in about 2m right beside the jetty.
