Round Shuna Race

Apparently there's a race round Shuna on the 29th August, with a feeder from Ardfern the day before. Anyone thinking of taking part? I'm tempted to throw in an entry as I have a family-in-law reunion that weekend that I could really do with escaping from.... :)

We have intended to enter this every year since 2003 but somethinng always comes up. Sadly we will not be able to enter this year either due to a prior committment, very frustrating as we have been practising for it regularly for seven years now!

thinking about doing it myself but starting from Oban (OSC Billmeir Trophy). Having trouble finding out how to get and entry and getting sailing instructions. May also need some crew as the race coincides with Cumbraes weekend and most of my sailing buddies are off doing that. It sounds like a relaxed fun event.

Craobh should have details - they certainly did last year. Like Nick, every year I've intend to take part in this but it's not happened yet, and probably won't this year either. I got as far as looking at a copy of the sailing instructions last year. Assuming I read it correctly, it seemed to be that Shuna could be circumnavigated in either direction at each racer's choice...

It is organised by the Clyde Corinthian Yacht Club who unfortunately don't have a website I can link you to  .

Got the sailing instructions through, looks like a nice wee race. Either way round the island, pursuit race format, and the race rules include that:
if [competitors] are seen in the vicinity of the Start Line, never mind cross it before their allotted time, they will be “keelhauled, half drowned in Corryveckan, and their remains fed to the midges on Scarba”
My kinda race. :D

Sadly the race was cancelled due to high winds - shame as the sunshine was brilliant, but after watching some of the problems boats were having leaving the pontoons and given the large number of shorthanded or family crews, probably the right decision. I finally left the marina at half 5 and the wind was still impressively strong.

Apparently on the feeder races the top two flying fifteens were separated by a second, and the keelboat racing was similarly tight.

Oh well, next year....

The flying fifteen feeder race was fantastic. I was on shore at the Dorus Mhor and got some video footage, which I have posted on Youtube, should be there if you search for Craignish.
