Where to eat?

Having failed to get a table at the Cafe Fish yesterday Mrs Ocklepoint wants to go out for lunch tomorrow.

The choices are The White House, Lochaline, The Boathouse in Kingairloch or the Fish Restaurant on Loch Leven.

Where should we go (by car)?

Don't think I have eaten at the Whitehouse, although I'm told it's very good despite having a name that rhymes with "toilet".

The Kingairloch Boathouse and Loch Leven Seafood Cafe menus look equally good. Both were excellent when we visited, and it was announced in a recent post that the Boathouse has a new chef.

We need a report from tomorow's excursion!

:)

A huge thumbs-up from me for the Whitehouse. A first for me last summer - I wrote to a restaurant after we had eaten there in order to tell them how good it was. Can't wait to go back.

[edit]... a thumbs-up too for the Loch Leven Sea Food Cafe. Also excellent but doesn't quite have the quality or atmosphere of the Whitehouse. But I seem to recall that it was very good value indeed. And it has a fishmonger and purveyor of paella pots next door! Must be a Spanish empty lorry return journey thing going on.

I would be happy in any of those 3 places, the Boathouse has changed chef , but menus seem to follow a similar style to last year. The differences for me are :
Leven - total seafood - similar to cafe fish
Boathouse - good food, more land than seafood
Whitehouse - probably the best technically and the food is very good ( spouts were fanatsic last time we were there)

What manner of comestible are these fanatsic spouts of which you speak sir?

I can't compare it with the others but thoroughly enjoyed the White House a couple of years ago and am saving up to return this year.

I will second Loch Leven Seafood - excellent food & service when we went last year (and a pleasant mooring).

We decided on the Whitehouse, thanks for the advice. Mrs Ocklepoint was well pleased. Unfortunately there were no spooties on offer, it's very neapy. The venison chacuterie and smoked haddock fish pie were very good. More expensive than a pub lunch but money well spent. Food on the west coast has greatly improved lately.

A few boats on the Sound of Mull today but only three on the pontoon in Tob on Tuesday. Very few to be seen off the north coast of Ardnamurchan all week, but the weather has been very unsettled. Not the weather for painting the windows on Ockle Towers.

135p per litre in Strontian was a bit of a shock.
