Something freaks me out.

I was getting redy to go down the yacht club for a beer. Just happened to glance at the forum, and spotted that Nick had been to St Kilda in 2009. Having been lucky enough to go there myself twice in the early 1990s I had a peep at his gallery, and came across this shot:

This sent me digging through my old photo albums and reaching for the scanner. i found this, dated August 1993.




We must have been standing on almost the identical same spot, 16 years apart. Look at the way the Irises have thrived!

That really sent a shiver down my spine.

I think the camera was an Olympus Trip S, 35mm. One thing I know about St Kilda, very, very few shots I took whan I was there gave any sense of the stunning beauty of the place. The Stacs and Boreray, in particular are something that will be with me for ever.

Not sure if I mentioned it, I may have, but we went in '91 with a chap called Bob Jones, on the Gaelic rose, of Lochaline, and teh second time, on a boat from Oban called the Monaco. There was a sailing dive boat that used to do the trip from Oban too, the Jean de la Lune.

I met Bob Jones a couple of years back, again at Lochaline, but I haven't seen either of the other two boats.

You're very lucky to have been there Nick. It's one of my favourite places on Earth.

BTW, if you look at the two photos, and line up the top of the newer round topped gravestone with the wall behind, you can make out that I'm a couple of inches taller than Nick.

The proliferation of Iris can surely only be down to one thing.....

I remeber Gaelic Rose and Monaco from the 90's, Jean De La Lune is looking a bit said laid up afloat in Leith for the last several years, not sure why although I did hear from someone that the owner had health problems.
