Tidal winds?

Following on from the night-time quiet spells, my good lady is convinced that the wind increases when the tide goes out. As far as I can tell this is based on observations when we have been dried out in large shallow bays or estuaries. Consequently, I suspect that the issue is due to the sand warming up & causing onshore breezes to be added to the prevailing westerlies (we are on the NW coast of Wales). When the tide comes in cool sea water covers the warm sand & the air stabilises.
Any comments? Is this something that is also found around the Bristol Channel (where there are similar conditions)?
