Just been waatching some John Entwistle solos on You Tube. That guy was an absolute master - played bass better than most guitarists played lead. Hats off- and he died like a true Rock & Roll Legend......... Full of Cocaine, pair of hookers in the Hotel Room in Las Vegas............................. Me? I'd be happy with a case of McEwans and a Fiesta.........
On the subject (and in my own subjective opinion) the individual members of the Who were miles ahead of themselves. But, who was ahead of who? Or did they just feed each other? Moonies drumming was a sight to behold (despite the fact he probably wasn't even aware of the fact that he had drumsticks in his hands), Townsend never even attempted to immitate Hendrix, yet had an instantly recognisable sound, and Daltrey never seemed to be phased by anything and had a power in his voice that would put any of his contemporaries to shame.

Legends every one - but Moon always amazed me. Superb rhythm but always looked like he was stopping himself falling off a cliff.

Moon for me............ reminds me a bit of my own life before I met Mrs P, I'm sure there's still a bit in the background. Sidenote; I was never one for drugs - alcohol was was bad enough for me. Not a criticism or point of view-merely a matter of what my body felt comfortable with; I was never one for staring, mildly amused, at ceilings.

Quite sure. I copied it from my big brothers' vinyl record to a C60 (quite possibly Philips)!

A bit before my time, and being a jazzer, I suggest Charlie Christian, one of the first exponents of electric guitar, was light years ahead of his time and a considerably better musician than most of the later rock star guitarists.

I incline towards Django and Charlie Christian as well. Off to a John Etheridge gig tonight which should be good. Most of those rockers died because of accidental overdoses - but not all; Iggy is now selling car insurance !!
