Stupid battery question

Just got new 12v batteries however when I put the voltmeter across one, it shows 17V, is that OK?
Suggest that you test your meter on another source - the car battery for instance.jim.r wrote:Just changed the battery in the voltmeter. One battery is showing 17v the other 18v

no not this yin, this is the one at home not the boat one.
