Radio Aerial

I've "Aquired" a car radio for use on the boat.
What sort of aerial is best?
I do NOT want to use the VHF aerial as I believe in seperate aerials for seperate radios.
Can I get something from Halfords or similar motor shop?
Advice please

Depending on reception area, it may work with just a wee bit of wire lying in behind the panel the the radio is mounted on. For a bit more gain, I have led a wire to the screws holding the sprayhood hoops. You'll be able to get a rubber duck type of car aerial in a car shop, but you may need extra coaxial cable if you want it outside(and then there's the hole....)

A rubber stumpy type, hidden somewhere behind a panel works well.

OK, but keep it away from the instrument wiring or you'll get an annoying tick-tick-tick

Glad you mentioned that Bill. All the electrickery wiring is stbd side by the companionway, so it will all be in close proximity by default.
I'm assuming that if I put the rubber thingy at some distance, with the correct co-ax cable, I should be ok.

I'm afraid it will be suck it and see, every setup's different. If it is annoying, it may be worthwhile checking and tightening all earth connections on the radio and the instruments.
