My summer mooring has fallen through at the eleventh hour for reasons which need not be gone into here.

A couple of well-connected locals have put the word out but any further suggestions for a modestly priced berth for a wee boat would be very welcome. I'm currently in the Oban area and wouldn't want to go much further north. I'd happily consider a move to the Clyde though since my parents live in Largs and a wee change of scene would be nice.

you use the term " berth ". are you considering a marina or just a swinging mooring ?

Nothing against marinas apart from the price. The mooring was to have cost about £150 and a bottle or two of the cratur.

cardwell bay yc and rgyc are non commercial so you would possibly get one cheaper there although to get the benefit of the launch at rgyc you would have to join.

i think you should go back to your original provider and shake him till he recants

Fisherman's Wharf (between Connel and Dunstaffnage) may have some spaces as it was to close this year but then got a very late reprieve. Bill&Mags http://www.bluemoment.co.uk/phpBB2/prof ... file&u=681 keep their boat there and should be able to give more detail.
I don't think it will be such a bargain as your previous deal was though.

I realise I'm extremely unlikely to get anything for the same money. I'd thought about the Balvicar Boatyard or Linnhe Marine moorings which are in the £6-700 range AFAIK but have no idea of availability - tomorrow's job. I'd forgotten about Fisherman's Wharf although I left Silkie there for a week a few years ago - TFT.

Ok, I'll try again. Forum seemed to fall off the wall last time & all posts "marked read" - thanks for that (not).

Any way, try Loch Etive, above the falls of Lora. Near Blackcrofts, North Connel. There is a small island on the N shore of the loch & a local chappie (I have no name) used to lay moorings there. VERY sheltered all year round. You are constrained by the Falls for entering/leaving the loch of course, but could borrow a mooring in Dunstaffnage Bay while waiting.

The upper Loch itself offers a pleasant mini-cruising area in poor weather or for mild winter weekends. There is a single track road up the N side of the loch that goes past the island & there was some off-road parking & access to a launching beach when I was last there - but it was some 15 years ago.

That's good to know but there's no harm in asking around.

I have a friend in Loch Goil who would probs be interested in letting someone have her mooring for the cost of maintaining it. Give me a shout if you're interested.

I presume you wouldn't be interested in moving South ?, my mooring at Wells is going to cost about the same, not that I'm tight or anything (well, I am really) but there's no way I would pay South coast prices.

A bit further than 2 or 3 hours and not on the west coast of Scotland either now that I come to think of it.

I'll definitely bear Loch Goil in mind Elsa. It would be a great trip getting there.
