I made my last post in the Lounge today, and feel cleaner already. If you see me in there just shoot me please.

I used to enjoy the banter on TOP, because that's what it was, banter. We could have a bit of a go with Scots/English Etc., and nobody took ofence, nor was any meant.
Lately it has just become completely intollerable, and although I do still visit occasionally, it is becoming less and less.
The posters on here seem much more civilised, and I'm sure that I'm not alone in that, going by the number of other defectors on here.
Cheers
Jim

I think my computer must be accessing a different YBW forum. Yes, there are drunken, aggressive and sneering posts, but not that many on the threads I choose to read & reply to. I find it easy to ignore the bad stuff - it says more about the poster than about the person/ idea villified. I make this point frequently, but people still choose to reveal their ignorance, intolerance and ineptitude.
Never in this world will you find two people that fully agree so what's the chances for several thousand? Live & let live, why let people with a different outlook on life spoil yours?

Its self destructing IMHO..... the recent spates of really quite vitriolic posts have put yet a further nail in the coffin.... in the days of Kim and then Keith, the posts wouldn't have survived 10 mins before being deleted.... its killing the forum slowly....
They'll regret it big time in the long run.....
Still, at least we have this corner of sanity to retreat to!

Is YBW good for IPC then?
I have wondered about that. For me it has definitely made me less likely to buy the mags as it is so easy to put a post up and get loads of relevant information within a few minutes, while as a social club it is beginning to show the strain.I wonder if he knows what the fora are doing to his magazine?
It is perhaps a victim of its own success. At least they made one good decision when they made the lounge viewable by members only.

Re: Is YBW good for IPC then?
Afraid I disagree. The creation of the Lounge was, imho, the point at which the constraints of decency and reasoned debate were removed. That was when political debate and humorous threads were lumped in with those from morons who felt no compunction about posting pictures of people being killed, as well as a lot of racist nonsense. It coincided with the relaxation of reasonable moderation.Nick wrote:At least they made one good decision when they made the lounge viewable by members only.
Scuttlebutt was a really good site - I'd watched it for a couple of years before I joined. Perhaps, as you say, they became victims of their own success.
Is it inevitable as sites grow? Don't think so, if sites are properly moderated.
Jings, never thought I'd be arguing for censorship on the Internet......

Erm . . .
.
I meant they made a good decision because the general non-signed-up public wouldn't get a very good impression of either IPC or boating in general if they could read it.
So I was speaking from a marketing / damage limitation point of view.
You may be right that if they had left these posts in the lounge they would have been forced to moderate a little more rigourously.
Anyway, how's the caravanning going?
