WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 1000 Thursday 21st February 2008

FRIDAY:
High pressure through central parts of France today, with a brisk westerly flow affecting much of the UK and Ireland. A cold front is going to be moving slowly southwards through East Anglia and the Midlands as well as Wales. Troughs affecting Scotland.
Along the line of the front there will be cloud and some outbreaks of rain. Most of this light and showery, but there is a risk of an odd heavier bursts here and there. I suspect that the far south of England is likely to be rather cloudy with some fog patches drifting up the English Channel.
To the north of the front there will be brighter skies and sunny spells. It will be windy and showery over northern England, Scotland and Ireland. The showers could be heavy at times, and wintry across northern and western Scotland.
Winds mainly W 15-20kt (F5) but 30-35kt (F7 gust F 8) over Scotland.

SATURDAY:
The warm front having moved eastwards through the country overnight will introduce more moist air to all parts of the UK and Ireland. Pressure remains high through central Europe, with the flow remaining southwesterly.
I suspect that Sunday is going to be a cloudier day for many of us. Western coasts regions of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland are likely to have low cloud and some mist and fog drifting onto the coasts too. Drizzle at times here.
More drizzle for much of northern and eastern England, as well as eastern Scotland in the morning, but this tending to fade and some bright spells then coming through.
Brighter skies to the south, especially in the afternoon and becoming very warm inland where the sun comes through.
Winds SW 10-14kt (F3-F4) through southern England, increasing as you head north to be SW 25-30kt gust 40kt (F6-F7 gust F9) over Scotland.

SUNDAY:
A cold front becomes slow moving over the west of the country on Sunday. Shallow low to the southwest will be running northeast along the front, intensifying it at times and bringing the risk of some heavy rain in the west.
For much of England and eastern Wales the morning will be one of broken cloud and mainly dry conditions; little change in the afternoon.
Heavy periods of rain developing through Ireland, northwest England and southern Scotland, these moving into the west of Wales in the afternoon.
For the northwest of Scotland it will become brighter with some sunny spells here.
Winds S-SW 10-15kt (F3-F4) becoming W 10-15kt (F3-F4) behind the front, but WSW 20kt (F6) over northern Scotland.

.
Have stickied it and allowed the previous one to sink . . .

I have also taken the liberty of adding the date statement to the title of the post, which will help people to check that it is the current forecast they are looking at - hope you don't mind.
