I've upgraded my Timezero navigation software to Version 5
It has advanced bathymetrics which will be really handy if I manage to sink Claymore because we'll be able to see what we are going to land on.
As well as that it has lights that flash in sync with the buoys and lighthouses around us which really should improve my chances of knowing where we are

I like the syncing feature until you find that the virtual world doesn’t match the real. Discovered that this year crossing to Coll where a buoy was to be rounded which didn’t exist except on the digital chart.

What does the bottom of Cuan Sound look like?

From memory - and stressing that I have only experienced the rocky bit on the left hand corner as you venture eastwards - I would describe it as rocky.
There is one particular rock - the one on which we alighted for a time - that is sort of stratified - as you can tell, I'm no geologist but it sort of has grikes running along it which help a long keeled boat to settle into and thus prevent sliding off. At the western end of this said rock, it slopes in a rather rounded fashion. This is useful because although you are facing east when you first encounter said rock, the incoming tide lifts and spins you so that you end up facing west. There is a bit of graunching which doesn't sound good, you achieve the vertical and at the very last moment, a rather relieving sort of lifeboat slide into the water ensues. I had it on good authority from a local fisherman who was very helpful and advised against sticking the anchor down that at the moment the slide begins - fire up the engine and get to feck away.
