A small yacht ran aground on the mole or whatever it is at the entrance toJames Watt dock. It is easy to get in and out without hitting anything, but it is also easy to run aground on teh mole as the buoy is not at the end.

An old grounding at the same spot, where the owner criticised James Watt dock for the standard of buoyage.

I also remember the motor boat that left James Watt dock to transit the NW passage and also ran aground on the mole.

I can't find any data on the approach within their web site https://www.jameswattdockmarina.co.uk/j ... -plan.html

It was an Etchells. Caught in stays I guess.

Onlookers reported 'dramatic scenes' as the pair were taken to safety.

What do onlookers know....

a quick glance at any chart or electronic plotter shows the shallow spit

from the videos of the incident, Im always amazed at the number of blue-light agencies that turn up in full combat gear and helmets and hand around like spare parts

I guess there is a heightened awareness at that spot considering the recent tug rollover and all the other incidents.

If this was some east coast mud bank, the reaction would be less dramatic, I assume.

Excitedly dialling 999 for a marine incident is a bingo moment, mobilise them all!

The local Coastguard is based in the firestation at Greenock. Half a mile away.
