I hear the new pontoons by the North pier are now officially open. Just in time for West Highland Week so the construction cost should be covered by Friday

I don't know what they charge or who collects the fees. Anybody know?

Rumour has it that its £3 per meter with a discount if you measure in Ft/inches ( Brexit apparently)

Fees payable in the Honesty Box on the bar of the Oban Inn.

I was past there last Friday morning and it was empty. Then on coming past again on Monday it was chokka.
Maybe with the WHW boats now at Tobermory it'll be deserted again?

The version I have is £3/m for a maximum of 3 nights and the boat cannot be left overnight unoccupied. Who polices this I have nae idea. Perhaps a forumite could volunteer to check by knocking up any unlit boats on their way back from the Oban Inn (did they just dust it down and reopen it with no other changes?).

Saw a piece in the Oban Times about the pontoons last week. It mentioned the two breakwaters and I just hope they are efficient as having attempted to spend a night on the old visitors mornings I can attest as to the scale of the swell that can work it's way up the Sound in a south westerly. They might take the stuffing out of any waves but fear they will just go up and down with the swell. Although we have not spent a lot of time there, I do feel some loyalty to the marina on Kerrara so won't be trying out the transit pontoons any time soon.

So, is the transit pontoon still there or is it on the road after last nights breeze?

5 months on and the pontoons are still there. The lifeboat has been using the breakwater pontoon all winter as the lifeboat berth is undergoing reconstruction.

I did expect that at least the inside pontoonery would be put somewhere safe for the winter, but no. But it still looks to be intact. Maybe the March equinoctials will have a go.
