In light conditions I generally hand the sail across, but in windier ones I sheet it well in as I start the gybe - I find it makes it easier to control when the gybe happens. Even i light conditions I sheet in enough that the boom is brought up by the sheet and not the standing rigging.claymore wrote: I always think it counter productive to sheet in the main as some people do - this in fact encourages the boat to go up to windward which is the opposite of what you are trying to do
