We are also thinking of changing boat. If we can sell Wight Dawn. A lot of what has been said in this thread applies to us. Desire for a pilot house or at least an all-over cockpit cover, somewhere to sleep other than in the saloon. I know our Renown has a fore cabin and after cabin, but there can be a lot of "motion" up front (think becoming airborne on every wave in Rothesay in a north-easter) and the after cabin may be OK for kids but not for me or Irene.

Re the Vancouver, the comfort is attractive (proper berths, wow! - we presently sleep in the saloon), and I like the cutter sail plan and the long keel. The Vancouver would also be more family friendly; good stowage space and better accommodation for grandchildren etc. Also, the full cockpit tent would suit Scottish summers.
The other boat that interested us was this one -

Bob & Lesley had a V34P - lovely boat. They kept her in Tarbert but have sold her now and moved back to Kip.
I must have got things wrong. I am in my 6th decade and have just bought a fairly sporty 18 footer - 8.2 metre mast on a 5.5 metre hull that weighs about the same as a cornflake packet. No creature comforts - like a cooker or toilet although I do carry a bucket:)

Well, it can affect who you can get to go sailing with you.

You'll have seen the net curtains? The cloggies will twitch them whenever anyone approaches. Everyone will assume yer up tae nae good if you don't.

Moody Eclipse 33.... Must be the best small west coast cruiser for a couple.
Not that I am in any way biased.

You're probably right, but a criterion for us was space for grandchildren etc etc. I like the Eclipse, but, for various reasons, the Moody Eclipse 38 seemed a more suiitable option, but there was the hens' teeth factor.
We also looked at a Southerly 115. Nice boat but two downsides IMHO;
1. Using the raised deck saloon for the galley seemed a bit of a waste, considering the value of a raised deck saloon is the comfort and the view of an evening;
2. It was a Mark1, and not greatly impressed by the keel. Nicely finished and comfortable boat, but unsure about it for the West.

There's a nice looking Nauticat 40 at Kip - deck saloon, inside and outside steering, designed by S & S so should go OK.

The Espace is a couple of feet longer, ish, but long in the tooth. The galley is down the step though, and inside steering position on the centre line, good for either tack.
