I think the cut out milk bottle seems a far simpler device.
We had one, but it blew overboard somewhere off Macrihanish!

I find a 2 gallon bucket is a large enough target to aim at, even one handed when it's cold.
I always ask the crew if her hands are warm and "can you hole this while I ....." which ensures a bit of privacy.
