Those new-fangled plastic caveat clips are totally f*****g useless. They decay in UV light, crack and break, and your caveats disappear beneath the waves, leaving you defenceless against criticism. I always fasten mine with traditional natural fibre spliced caveat danglers tied to my excuses with clove hitches. That way you can adjust the caveats and keep the excuses in their correct place.Alan_D wrote:What kind of knot do you use to attach your caveats? Well I am happy to report that Cherry Ripe may well be ready. New engine mounts and oil cooler pipe have been fitted, at considerable expense, the Eberspacher only needs a new exhaust and some dodgy wires fettled. The electronics are another story but we have a Walker log and a compass.

I have no idea if the dreaded 'W' word will knacker my plans but I fully intend to attend.
Wee boatie is ready to go.
As long as I'm not in Tasty Pastry land we'll be there.

I find an emptor quite suitable.Alan_D wrote:What kind of knot do you use to attach your caveats? Or can you get specially-designed caveat clips?DaveS wrote:Avilion should be there - with all the usual attached caveats. Lots of expressions of interest - could be quite a fleet.

Dave - I'd beware of that emptor if I was you, try renting one rather than buying one.

Has the Cruise Director had a think about a venue and date for the opening meet/drink?

Plenty of thoughts but nothing committed to paper or web. I find its best like that. A fixed plan tends to have a very negative influence and discourages the organic chaotic culture the event has come to enjoy.
There was a time when we planned it to leave Colonsay and be flushed along up to Ardfern on a series of connecting favourable tides. It was a truly remarkable day and Silkie himself commented on it - that was the year of "Be kind to Silkie" - I think planning peaked that year and has never quite been the same since.

I only ask because I have seen 30th April mentioned and no matter where the venue is, other than maybe Tayvallich Inn, we won't make it.
Somewhere South of Oban, or maybe even the WMF, is doable for Friday night the 1st May, if we take Friday off and travel up Thursday after work.

Well wherever it is I hope there will be sufficient ships. We spent a couple of busy days fixing stuff and tidying up, launched on Tuesday and picked up our mooring at Dallens Bay on Wednesday. I was surprised not to see more boats, only about 4 moorings occupied.
I have recruited adequate crew for the weekend and am looking forward to, among other things, giving the fine new mainsail a proper airing.

No access to a tide table for another week or so - anyone feel like posting Oban HW times for Friday?

Thanks Ash
So HW Oban about 17:30 BST.
Cuan Pladda and Dorus Mor will turn about 15:30 ish.
So we could wander down southwards from Mid Afternoon Friday which would fit with Aquaplane.
Would that suit the Dallens Bay and Dunstaffnage contingent?
Obviously if we have Southerlies blowing that wouldn't be as attractive as wandering Northwards and if we do get a Southerly then perhaps Aquaplane could catch us sometime later on Saturday?
Too soon to call yet but thinking caps on chaps. ( Called them Chaps, good for morale and by God, they loved me for it...)

If it's blowing from the South we can head North on Friday to rendezvous between somewhere Crinan and Oban. I'm warming to the idea of tagging Friday on to the holiday.

If it's Southerly on Friday I doubt if those leaving Appin on Friday will get very far before dinner time. It's more than two hours from Dallens Bay to Oban in the most favourable conditions.
