Hope the wind drops a bit by next weekend... Hope to sail Oban to Clyde via wherever the wind is favourable.

Offshore buoys only showing 30 knots while Caledonian forecast tops at F10.

I notice the K2 Buoy's anemometer is not working, but it is recordning a wave height of 7.5m.
Most other offshore observations are winds not above 30-35 kn.
And BBC (radio Scotland) reporting that this is the remnants of "Hurricane Katrina". I've never heard of a hurricane taking so long to cross the Atlantic!

Has the winds died down a bit in the last hour or so, or is it my imagination and wishful thinking?
Large Barge broke its mooring cables (big dia steel cables) at south end of Fairlie bay this morn, went ashore at the closest (to its mooring) point then wind and a change of tide took it northwards up along the shore until it smashed the timber jetty and came to rest, amazingly it never hit any other vessel.
Think someone was trying to get anchors attached this eve, as they arrived with a lorry and big anchors on it.
Its going to be a pain without the jetty, that is if my boat survives tonight.

Prestwick volmet is now quoting 19kn,(was 30 gusting 51 this afternoon) while ShipAIS (wind now) is quoting 30! It's still a bit noisy, but not so bad as it was earlier.

This is one time I'm glad Sahona's so heavy, as we're still on the hard with the mast up...
I believe you can telephone the wind robot on top of the cranes at the deepwater terminal for a more local picture of Fairlie, but I can't find the number inside Google.

We are currently in Tobermory. The wind here is not awful but the rain is just soul destroying.
Went to castle Duart yesterday overlooking Oban and that sea looked VERY unpleasant. There is more rain today and more wind, still not too bad, though Weather Underground is reporting 60km/h gusts in Oban..
I do wonder whether I'll leave Tobermory before the weekend
