So much for that forecast..

Post by sahona »

Well, we got shafted by the sea state on Friday, so only got to Lamlash.
Watched the singles bowls final in the local club in the pouring rain.
Came home on sunday due to the forecast, which this time did come true.
Quite thankful to be snug on our mooring on Monday!
That's it for the season, sails are in the loft, boat is being emptied in preparation for the lift-out on 18th.
Let's hope 2009 has better weather.

The forecast was spot on for Saturday. I left Ardrossan at 3.30 it was the worst conditions I've experienced in the Ardrossan triangle. Wind was south West about 20-25 knots with a big swell. Bang on time at 4.00 the front came through the wind picked up and veered 90 degrees to right on the nose and the seas were all over the place. Managed to loose my windex and mast head Aerial. Visibility was down to about 500yards with sideways rain. By the time I reached the Hunterston channel the wind dropped and the sun came out. Saturday night in Millport bay was like a millpond. with a beautiful clear night sky. I left about 1030 sun morn and motored back to Ardrossan as it was flat calm.
Only 6 months till next April.
We'll get a night out organised for sometime in December.
See you then if not before

Had a great weekend up west.

One tack to Tobermory on Friday. On the wind to Lismore light then wind on the beam to Salen and aft of it beyond the dog-leg. We'd made such good time (less than five hours door to door) that we were too early to risk the Doirlinn. Drifted and motored back against the last half of the flood on Saturday afternoon intending to anchor in Loch Aline but when we arrived off the entrance it was such a beautiful evening and the fair wind was now a fresh breeze that we continued goose-winged to Oban.

Arrived just as darkness fell. All the marks were lit except the lighthouse. A phone call neccessitated a change of plan so we motored back to Dunstaffnage on Sunday morning arriving just in time and only momentarily grazing the bottom at shoal corner.
