Remember that if you are used to sailing a Beneteau 18, then most older, bigger yachts will seem to be much roomier. There are lots of good boats about at reasonable money. Most will be slower than your Bennie as well. As a very rough guide, referring to the CYCA handicap system,which is far from ideal, the Bennie would be just over 3 minutes in the hour quicker than a Tiger. My Ecume would in theory be about the same as your Bennie, but still has decent accomodation. What I think I am saying is that you should look at a lot of 'bigger' boats, and you will find something that does not need much work for the same kind of money.

Thanks for that Pete, I realise that all boats are a compromise. At the moment the compromise is too far towards performance for my (and my crew's) needs.

I learned to sail in a Westerly Windrush so I know all about going sideways slowly, or should I say going slowly and sideways fast.

I'll find something, it'll be a compromise again, but if I wake up without back ache, don't have to crawl to put the kettle on, and still pass some of the boats I'll be happy.

I think you should ask your crew what they want. Yes - not being grabbed with a 'Yarrh' when reaching over from one narrow bunk to put the kettle on the one meths stove.

Having consulted the Corps of Galley Slaves Directive 013378/B I think I'm entitled to request a 'fridge/freezer with chilled water dispenser and a tumble dryer. Aga optional.

Or just some headroom when getting dressed & a chemical loo.

(To tell you the truth - when we viewed 'Mykonos' on Windermere I felt we were being interviewed by Mr Kirk to make sure she was going to a good home. This could explain the reason she's been for sale for so long).

Oh excrement - I think that we've gone and talked him out of it!! Mind you, he did ask. I can convince myself that my conscience is clear cos if Aquaplane was totally smitten by the Windermere Tiger, with heart overruling the head then he would have ignored us all.

Seriously, I see a major problem for Aquaplane is that he wants to trail. This means that a decent road trailer needs to be included in the deal, or bought separately and they don't come cheaply.

For example, there is one for sale on the VEGA forum, described as a bargain at £1,500 ( the Vega is 27ft and 2300kgs )

There are a couple of Tomahawk 25's at Kip, what do thay sail like? I can't find much info but I think they were supposed to be fast.

There is a Cobra 750 at Kip too, it's a low price for the model, I wonder what's up with it.

Then there is a Dufour 1800 and a Pagaent at Troon, and all those on Boats and Outboards, the choices are many and various.

My head is a shed at the moment, I think I may just stick with what I have lol

I had a rough quote for transport from the Clyde area to Windermere since it seems importing something around 25' may be an option. £700 to £900 was a very rough guess. Something with a (good) trailer is even better.
