Nothing to do with accents as such, but lisps and saggy wrists were mercilessly bombarded in the place that began with a "K" Not that I'm suggesting anything other than you may have got caught in the crossfire.

Should you have ventured south of the Border in a time called 'The 80's', Preston Dock had an establishment called 'The Manxman', a floating nightclub based in the old Manx Packet Steamer.
Us gels from the local Girl's Grammar School would sneak out at weekends and turn our lacrosse shin pads into shoulder pads. We'd dance the night away - with each other of course as the bouncers would never allow any blokes up the gang plank.
Happy days, especially when pulling the bodies out of the dock a couple of days later.
