hi. does any1 know anything about a "trewes 1a?". im selling everything and i plan to sail to oz, just me and my dog. ive bought a trewes 1a, which was a mess, but im doing it up and i plan to go about may'ish. does any1 know anything about this boat? e.g. how they sail in different conditions, or anything? i can only find a couple of ads for sale in holland on the net. so, any info i could get would be greatfully appreaciated. thank. mark.

Appears to be a Dutch-built 29ft steel long keel sloop - early 60s design

Have a look at http://www.go.to/trewes - there is an email address

Probably a bit slow - most steel boats under 35ft are overweight.

Please post more ionfo here if you find it - I am curious . . . and it would be nice if you could keep us up to date with your progress.

Until Nick's post I thought that this was a set-up for some subtle seasonal pun where trewes 1a might be made to rhyme with Hogmanay or perhaps involving the phrase hoose o' the trews wa hae. Shame really.

PS - Welcome aboard Huggy and I'm sorry that I know nothing about your boat except that she looks the business in the hull and keel departments.

You need to have the picture hosted on the web on a site which allows linking. Most people use a free Photobucket account. Having uploaded your picture to a suitable site you then place the url of the pic into your post between image tags like this:

If you use photobucket it provides the whole img string for you. Try to keep the pic width under 700 pixels to avoid it disrupting the forum page. Again, photobucket provides an option to resize your pic on upload to 640x480.

It's not as hard as it sounds and I'd love to see some pics of your boat. Here's one of mine.

hi. ive got some photos here of my boat when i first bought her and some of her half way through her restoration. it was worse than it looks. the steel from the top of the rudder back to the transom was rotten, so i had to cut out a 2' x 3' hole and weld in new framework and replate.

my idea atm is to have sea trials going to irland, then azores-spain-canaries-north africa-cape verde-then over the pond and then dont know. atm but i will prolly make my mind up as i go. i dont care how long it takes. i havnt got that much money so i will need to work from time to time. i have a friend who has just built a 34' steel van-der stadt who will be coming with me in his boat with his girlfriend but i dont know how long we will sail together. cheer. mark

hi m8. thans. they were taken yesterday. my next job is to fabricate the cockpit coaming and then paint the deck. ill then get to work on the interior.

Take my hat off to you Huggy, that's a nice looking boat. What did you paint her hull with mate, 2 pack?

If you're on a tight budget (like me!!) and you use paper charts, there's an American firm called 'Tidesend' who do world-wide charts at about 1/3 the Admiralty price. Papers not as good, but ok if you're careful, and from their catalogue you can make your choice and they will make them up into a folder for you. Not the connoisseurs choice and they make 'solent Admirals' go purple about the gills, but they've worked for me for 10 years. Keep us updated. Chakalo

thanks. its painted with international singlepak (ivory) i thought that all white would be a bit much. i wanted to do it blue but i needed to have a coulour to reflect heat, and now ive done it i think ive made a great choice. im over the moon with the results. cheers for the info on charts, should save me some cash.
