Thumbs up for The Old Inn, Carbost, Loch Harport

Post by Telo »

Been a few years since we were last here, but spent the last couple of days sheltering from the gales and waiting for the sea to calm down a bit.

Anyway, the pub has supplied mornings, but there is also plenty of space to anchor. Pub grub is excellent. We sat in on the Friday night jam session on Saturday (eh?) which was a mixture of traditional music plus blues and stuff. Local musicians included Farquar MacDonald on fiddle and Ali Pentland, ex-Peatbog Faeries, on vocals and guitar. Both are outstanding musicians, well worth a google.

Music nights are Wednesday for traditional and Friday for an open jam session, traditional to whatever. Highly recommended.

Agree, a good pub. The restaurant next door is pretty good too.

We couldn't get a seat in the restaurant , but as far as the pub grub goes it was excellent. Seafood every bit as nice as the "Old Forge " at Inverie was. The distillery is quite a magnet for visitors, but they have plenty of time for people coming ashore from boats. Good welcome & service!

Will visit again if we're in the area.

When I read that my first thought was "What distillery?", then I realised that I had misread Shard's OP and thought for some now unfathomable reason that he was talking about the pub at Stein. So my recommendation was for the restaurant next to that one! To clarify, I haven't been in the restaurant at Carbost, but would certainly agree that the pub's good.
