Going to sound grumpy here but does the RNLI carry out this work on a full cost recovery, profitable basis or are my subs contributing to the colossal fuel bill that just got run up there?

Lets face it, it looks good fun. If I had access to a boat like that funded entirely by a willing public I would go for the odd jolly in rough weather. That's 100 posts, do I get a promotion.

And that's not even counting the cost of the helicopter....... ;-)

Given that Arran was off the map for over a week, I'm sure there were families who needed medical and other urgent supplies. I'm pleased RNLI was able to assist (umm, assuming it was emergency supplies...).

[/cynic mode] I know they were short of electricity, which can be debilitating for a 21st century lifestyle, but were the ferries off too? A

Was that Lochranza they were delivering to? If so, it's possible the wee ferry from Kintyre wasn't running and the roads from Brodick were blocked. Justification possibly.

Dont understand why the helicopter was filming it. Surely it would have made more sense to just use a Seaking - we pay for those anyway

Never mind the helicopter anorakery, isn't the subject "Great footage" a bit passé in this digital age?

Nuthin sooper about Pumas- cramped, noisy, rattly, fall-out-the-sky French shyte.

Mind you, only one person at a time allowed on the boarding steps of the S92 - more than that and it might break off....
