Re: West Highland Line

I did this trip twice at the start of August. The first one was Glasgow to Mallaig and back in a day and the second time I went to Morar and back in a day. Later that week I also did Glasgow/Inverness/Kyle of Lochalsh and back in a day. That is definitely worth doing too. You get two hours in Mallai...

Cowes yacht collides with tanker

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_tUoUxzt9sI&gl=GB I had thought of putting this as a tip of the day "Remember you can't win in a straight fight with a tanker". No-one seems to have been hurt. I like the background comment at the beginning about right of way. ...

Re: Coll moorings nonsense from Neil Smith

As someone who has used moorings all over the Clyde and West Coast over the past few years I would be more than happy to see a Paypal honesty box facility set up. We always try to pay for moorings or to spend lots in the bar or hotel that provides them, but like most people there have been times whe...

Re: Rothesay moorings

LOL. I have one somewhere. It's probably under the pile of beer cans and the BBQ :). Actually we anchored off Millport a couple of weeks ago as the tide was very low and it was getting dark so we didn't fancy our luck getting into the moorings that night. It got very bouncy in the morning however wi...

Re: Rothesay moorings

I have to say that I am not really surprised. Last summer we were talking to the chap who collects the money and he was saying that they had to reduce the number of moorings as they couldn't afford to service them. It would appear that folk would use them but not come ashore and pay. We usually did ...

Rothesay moorings

Last week I set sail from Ardrossan to spend the week sailing round the Clyde before heading up to the head of Loch Fyne and back. On the way up we stopped at Rothesay for lunch at the Black Bull. We picked up a mooring as we usually do. (Although in February we stayed in the harbour and we were the...

Re: 2009 season`s end ....

As a relative newcomer to the Clyde cruising scene I arrived at Tarbet this summer having read that it was a "must go to". What a disappointment it was. No proper beer, less than friendly locals, poor food, dreadful facilities. My boat has better shower (andf it's not great BTW) and a far ...
