Re: Yachts on moorings - etiquette
As a fellow R32 owner (not that its relevant!) heres my thoughts. I would have picked it up and left it in the cockpit if it was safe and convenient to do so. Don't think I would have bothered with a note. Be convenient I mean that as I often sail single handed if I had full sail up I doubt if I wo...

Re: Anyone out?
Big tides next week & Sea Rush is on a new quayside berth so I will be babysitting her thro at least one tide & may go for a little potter later. I am also considering having a look at setting up a couple of oak pads on the transom for davits. I've had them for a few years now, but hate dril...

Re: Keep your top pocket
When I did that while tying off the aft mooring warp, it fell out, one bounce on the aft deck & splosh into 6' of water. I never even found it again, even after the tide went out. :( Not a good idea to have it in you back pocket either, especially when boarding the dinghy in light surf & you...

Re: Survey for insurance purposes
I realise I am a little late in the day joining this thread, but I too am of the opinion that boats with rigs built like a brick outhouse & sailed on family picnics tend not to lose their masts that often. My aged Westerly has short fat masts & heavy rigging and is still healthy @ 41 years o...

Re: Acid Rain or what?
I once had my hull speckled with hundreds of small welding sparks by one guy working on his boat upwind of mine. Absolute beggar to get rid of them, there are still some turn up now & again, 20 years on.

Re: Warm Whisky In The Morning
An Island friend & myself, travelling in Northern Slovakia some years ago shortly before the two countries split, came across a shop with bottles of "Scotch" called "Old Cock" - in English. I think the 70cl bottle cost us something like £1.50p, slightly dearer than the local ...

. Our Spade doesn't fit on the bow roller. We carry it hooked over the pulpit and bungied in place. It means it is a bit of a faff unbungie-ing it and feeding it under the pulpit prior to anchoring and vice versa on departure, but you would get used to it and for us I guess the unstowing and stowin...

Woa, I thought the site had livened up a bit, but it all turns out to be a load of spam.

Re: Poll - hitting rocks
Never hit any on the Scottish west coast so had to post "no" But I have hit dozens (& a few wrecks too) around N Wales. As pointed out on the other thread, your tiny tides make it a lot easier to anchor near rocks without hitting them. When there is a 11m range & strong currents, o...

Re: The rocks are growling this year
Folk placing too much faith in their chart plotters? Ardfern always has a good selection of boats in for keel pan surgery- one boat had only been sailed by its new owner for 6.5 hours...that's gotta hurt. I'm sure that they create a feeling of confidence that isn't really justified in many cases. A...

Re: Fleeces with confusing "inside pockets"
(snip) My point is that it seemed my fleas had inside pockets, but in fact they are the exterior pouch pockets tacked in one place to the interior of the jacket - creating an interior pocket with open sides. (snip). I believe you can get powders to get rid of them. But I would be paying them or let...

Re: This time of the year
Well I retired years ago & get even less time on the boat than ever. Too many family commitments now as the beggars think I have nowt else to do but help them out . . .
It is nice to be able to help & to see the G-kids, but it would also be nice to have a bit more me time too.
