Your information is correct and with immediate effect the mooring buoys are no longer "supported", seems that cost of maintenance etc. is more that the income generated. See the full story in May edition of "Yachting Life"

Fully agree with the "local knowledge" argument and am not confident in the counter argument that "technology is a more practical and better substitute" Early June last year in very poor weather a small power boat got into difficulties and reported his position on VHF 16 to Clyde...
