Re: Different "Where is it?"
Definitely Loch Lee - the giveaway is the shape of the burn entering from the left of the picture and the small square plantation - shelter for a house- above it. The big crag at the head of the glen on the left looks interesting - Bruntwood Craig on Hunt Hill I think- but can't find any info on cli...

Idle curiosity - Marcon
Long winter evenings leaving too much space for idle curiosity - what does the term 'marcon' mean in relation to boats? I know it comes up in the name of some boats e.g. Marcon Tomahawk. But also seen a reference which implies that it has some link with boat shows. Can anyone put me out of my misery...

Re: The other side of the boom
Thanks Nick, interesting detail. Barton sell a pack for converting to slab reefing - was that what you used? If not how long was the track you used and how long would you have used in retrospect?

Re: Oxalic acid
Also bought mine from local pharmasist at Killearn = cost less than a fiver for enough for 2x 27 foot boat! Only problem I had with it was leaving it in the little unmarked plastic bag and two months later nearly using it as sugar!!! By the way C_W, I decided to try out the 'new' McGruers yard for w...

Re: Dopey question
The winter I kept the boat in I think I got more done than if she had been on the hard - was more pleasant going down to a floating boat- and had a couple of good sails in December in a very quiet Upper Clyde. BUT one of my teak cleats was snapped during a wild night storm. Really a decision you can...

It's too Far South to be Rona.

Re: Quantity of anchor rode in a Vega
Thanks Dan, that ties in with what I thought. Although my first impression is that the ankarolina doesn't look look that strong it is acually given quite a strong breakage load by the manufacturer - certainly octoplait would be better to handle - I don't have a windlass. Just as an aside do you know...

Looking for help to sail boat back from Ullapool to Clyde
Short notice, but any members interested in helping me sail my boat (Albin Vega - so 'cosy for three') back from Ullapool to Helensburgh? Thinking of setting off Tuesday evening but flexible -planning to do 24 hour sailing and watches to get back ASAP. PM me if interested and we can have a phone cha...

Re: Quantity of anchor rode in a Vega
Sounds good Dan, can I just clarify two things: How do you attach the shackle to the nylon warp? I only ask because with the nylon to chain connection usually used there is a bombproof splice overlapping with chain for a couple of feet. My 'system' ( which I'm not entirely sure about) is having an A...

Re: newbie wants to know what mooring costs may be.
Can't comment on Wales/ NW England particularly but I too have been trying to boat on a budget. I got my Albin Vega for 10k. Would recommend a Vega because of the sturdy construction and the backup from a very active class association. Up until this year I rented a mooring for the summer c.£650 for ...
