Thicker than ice by john pennington. Very highly reccomended.

Its his second book, following Orca, the story of their circumnavigation.

Yeah, the current politics line is interesting I enjoyed them, tho I think the first was the best.
Recently read the shetland sailing mysteries set, and enjoyed them, tho no wonder that lass got the evil eye in one of the later books, shes a magnet for corpses
